Hello, sometime ago SerebetGM did a review about my animated series "The Enchanted Ones from Santos", he speaks spanish so it's all in spanish
https://serebetgm.newgrounds.com/news/post/1284919
Me and google did translate it to english here it is:
I apologize in advance to all Anglo-Saxon users of newgrounds. For reasons of comfort and to provide the best criticism possible, this post is made entirely in Spanish, my root language. You can use the google translator to change the language.
Criticism of the series by @TheMiamiSpellcaster
Encantadas de Santos (The Enchanted Ones from Santos)
--Reaction to chapter 1 (The Largest Port in Latin America):
"00:10 WTF Bro?
00:20 AAAAh ok, I thought it was a nonsense creepypasta XD"
*Watched for the 2nd time without pausing to read the subtitles*
"I did not understand"
*Seen for the third time*
Wow...so sad.
--Chapter 2 reaction (Beach City) (Full Length Ep)
"I thought she was a boy xdd"
"what the hell"
"7 years old wtf?"
"1998? wtf?"
"How can you watch porn on a phone from that era?" ?)
"Is this a school or a mental hospital? It looks like Komi-San."
"lol I know that guy"
"brazilian sailor moon xdddd"
"AND WHERE DID THAT BALD OLD MAN COME FROM?"
"But hey, is it your dad or your sugar daddy?"
"GO TO HELL FEMINIST GROUP"
"This is the job of the fucking sailor moons, let's go girls"
--Cap 3 reaction (State Company):
"Clearly it was a hint, but is this a school or a mixed mental hospital?"
"I came to laugh and ended up reflecting on my existence."
+++++Start of technical analysis
This review will focus on analyzing as much as possible everything related to history. then the animation section will go. As an initial comment, I say that the message of the work must be analyzed with tweezers, because at first glance it is not very clear
The Enchanted Ones from Santos is clearly inspired by classic Mtv animations, which made many jokes related to black humor and some off-color content; Proof of this is Butthead's cameo in chapter 2 of the beach, as well as the small joke that is made in the same chapter regarding the sailor moons, with enough power to do whatever they want and kill whoever they want (?). Resources like these are obviously useful, there are several series that have used mocking resources to make people laugh, for example: The Simpsons, Drawn Together, Family Guy, American Dad, among others.
For the Anglo-Saxon audience of the generation of 2000, these types of series are very popular, so I give the author positive points for using this type of theme to demonstrate the argument.
++++++Argument (from my point of view)
The argument, in simplified form, is about the main idea that a work wants to give us, whether written or animated. Personally, I think the argument is: To show a common life in the city of Santos through fantastic and ridiculous elements (no offense, it's true) as well as to show something of the culture of the country in which the story takes place, Brazil. Of course, this is the impression that the first chapters gave me, this idea could change over time.
Although the argument is not bad (or at least I consider it good for personal reasons) the way of showing this idea is a bit strange. What do I mean by strange? Well, there are certain parts where the average viewer might "cringe or freak out" in a bad way. Before writing this, I showed the work to several colleagues, and technically they told me the same thing: What the hell is this thing?? I tried to explain, but they didn't want to know more about it.
Anyway, in summary, I think that the argument is good, and it can even be improved a bit by showing some of the culture of other nearby cities and even with a cultural clash with another country in the future.
++++Characters:
The characters are those who develop in the work, they are living people, with unique feelings and often incoherent for our mind.
A phrase that I use every time I am going to create a character is "Don't give your essence to the characters, give them a heart, as if they were another child of yours"
With good characters, even the worst plot can be the best on the face of THE EARTH. An example of this, kono subarashii sekai ni shukufuku wo! (konosuba!) on the contrary, if the plot is good, but the characters are not... an example of this is (and excuse me fans of it) Mirai Nikki.
Taking into account that the series already had its first season, I can say that the characters seemed to me: Meh. Not good not bad.
The bases of the characters are not bad, they even made me laugh more than once with one or another gaje, but there were other times when I noticed something strange in them.
But for crying out loud, despite having watched it 3 times in a row and very carefully, I could not understand the names of all the characters, for which I will categorize them by color and their relative name xd (As a non-professional comment I would like to say that the series is full of simps)
--gilleanne (blue hair) [I thought it was a man xd]
The clues are that this 7-year-old lesbian and simp of a hairy milf is the protagonist. daughter of a billionaire and a woman who pampers her children a lot (not to mention that she is a milf) she is disgusted to see litter on the street, and if she sees even one, or a Nazi / feminist / furro / gays /entf/Pndj/PDf or whatever, she won't hesitate twice to activate her buttocks-parting power so she can wish offenders a definite goodnight. She has money, but she doesn't want to use it when asked, but only when she wants to.
It's also speculated that some crazy doctor who could very well be her grandfather/her father/her archenemy/her Simp and whatnot, masturbates to her pictures, but that doesn't matter much.
Cissa (milf)
The most beautiful (and hairy) person in the series. she is a character that could well be somewhat oscillating, but don't get convinced at first. She is a miserable soul who lives in a box of matches, and who knows that telephones exist by sheer miracles. She was lucky enough to find a simp with a good amount of money who would do anything (except buy something outside of the planned shopping hours) to have her to herself. She is also immortal.
Reckon (the girl yellow hair deranged and bites penises)
If you see this girl on the street, stay away or she'll bite your dick off, seriously, a sausage bite hurts. If it were hers for her, she only does what she wants. if she wanted, she would take on an army of punks and a guerrilla of amazonian indians to overthrow the interim president and obviously fail in the attempt. Did I mention that she can bite penises? stay away from her.
Eddna: mother of the lesbian xd
There is not much to say about this character. We know that she is too sweet and overprotective of her daughter, to the point that she can become an unknown entity that can have a very unknown power.
The nerd (brown hair, glasses, and somewhat simple xd)
Let's say that this character is the simplest of all the main ones. She doesn't stand out too much (neither because of her physical appearance nor because of her personality :( ) but in one way or another, her relevance in the story could be relevant or not. I also think she wants to play alone with the rich girl, but I still don't have the proof enough to prove that fact.
I'll be frank, rarely have I had the opportunity to describe other people's characters like this in reviews like these, I felt calm writing that. You did something right with the characters Even so, I must say that there are some disagreements in the character of the characters, there is also the fact that I could not learn the names of all the characters, and for that to happen with me there is something that bores too much of those forgotten characters
I am not able to say if the characters can evolve for better or worse in this series due to the fact that relevant information about past history and key moments in the arcs is still missing.
-The arches:
The arcs, in short, are the events that have something in common in the story to reach a specific end. It cannot be confused with the argument, since that is "the main idea" of the work. Arcs are just events that help deliver the message of that plot.
I'll be honest, I had never criticized a series that only has three chapters. It's kind of hard for me to pinpoint the exact number of arcs, so I'll just categorize this part as a single arc: Season 1.
The beginning shows us a very eccentric and somewhat bloody summary of what the city of Santos would be.
I don't like to give spoilers?), but I will say that the way he makes this description left me somewhat surprised... and I had a moment of somewhat sour tension.
Also, the design of the main characters are shown
I see the first chapter as a prologue rather than a first episode for the simple fact of its duration.
I don't know if I'm wrong, but I think the author wants to make a series of shorts and not medium-length films, but I'll cover this topic later.
---
The second chapter, almost an hour long, can be divided into two parts: The morning at school/high school? where an idea is given of what the personalities of the main group will be like, and the weekend at a popular beach in Santos. The second part is by far the most entertaining, and somewhat nonsensical but it is somewhat enjoyable, because from the first chapter it is known that logic is not the main pillar of the series.
I add that I am not a fan of hair, whoever saw the chapter knows what I mean.
---
And in the third, I can only say that it was a mockery of a certain political issue that many ignore in countries other than Brazil. Little more should be noted of this minute and something.
---Criticism of the animation (personally)
Animation isn't my forte, but I have a few good and bad comments about it.
Let's start with something simple: The warning note. In this it is true that it says what contains something of the work, but it also says that THE CHARACTERS DO NOT HAVE THE IDEOLOGY OF THE AUTHOR
...As I said above, the characters must have a life of their own. With this I understand myself, right? the characters must already be clear that they do not have the author's ideology, they are only in charge of bringing the story to life.
When I read that, I already had an idea of the quality of the work. I continued the same with little expectation.
The fact that the character designs are very similar to the nft doesn't bother me, nor does their lack of mobility bother me, the descriptions of Brazilian tropicalisms embedded in the story bother me. During the class several explanations of those terms were made and there came a point where I had to close the laptop and stop watching the series because my head was hurting so much because I was pausing to read a description of something that could have been left out. as an explanation at the beginning or end of chapter 2, using a simple animation of at least two characters humorously explaining the terms they gave us in text. Of course, Brazilian people could watch the animation without getting a headache, but what about the Anglo-Saxon public? OK, you can ignore the text to continue, but I think that's not what the author wants, he left the notes there for a reason.
Yes, it is true that the characters look very flat, but at least that doesn't matter to me, I care about the plot and the personalities of the characters
I was also annoyed by the fact that the voice cast is smaller than the boku no hero academia latin voice cast. They have a single voice (*cof* the author himself, ahemmm) modulated as much as possible to vary things. I understand that the author is pursuing his dream of animating, but I had to say it, the voices made me go through a long time of anxiety. The voice is another essence of the character, and that everyone has the same voice... it's not comfortable. I hope that the author can count on the necessary support to be able to correct this section, since I see it as very necessary to improve the quality of the work.
World building:
I only touch on this concept with stories in which I see a level of strength above the average human.
In short, the w.b is how your world is structured, both in scale of power, allied and enemy organizations, and various hierarchies.
I'll tell it like it is, I don't see any sense in w.b... although I don't know if I'm wrong in writing this because each chapter that will come will have a kind of mockery of a specific series or something like that, which is what I hope .
Pros and cons of the series
+reasonable argument
+Healthy use of references and cameos
+ creativity with the characters
-Flat character design
-variable duration of the chapters
-The poor voice cast.
Final score:
From 1 to 10:
-Characters: 6
-Argument: 6
-Animation: 2
WB: ?
Final:
4.5
I leave the last one blank because I'm not very sure if this series has it or not.
In newgrounds rating I would give this animation 3 stars to all the chapters.
My average for recommending series and stories is 7 points and up, even so, I cannot say that this work should not be seen by anyone, because there are enjoyable things here and the proof of this is the followers that the author has at the moment .
What I would recommend for this work would be something that I would do:
-Lower the "intense" content a bit
-Vary a bit the design of the characters
-Add more men xd or you can add tomboys
-Standardize the average duration of the chapters from 2 to three minutes, and in very special cases give chapters of 15 minutes.
-Leave the explanation of the tropicalisms at the beginning or at the end of the chapters so as not to hinder the series.
Personal message:
I don't criticize many, I only do it for people who really have the courage to do something by themselves through sweat and tears. I make them so that they can advance even a little in their projects. It is very frustrating sometimes to give everything humanly possible in a project, only to be forgotten by the consequences of an immeasured and blind passion towards it.
The Miami Spellcaster is a Brazilian who probably has a lot against him, but even so, he wants to do what he likes. And he has also shown me that he is not an immature person, because of the things that I have been able to discuss with him
Don't let a rent, or a night without bread stop you, once you start something you must finish it no matter what. There is nothing more incredible than seeing the evolution of an entrepreneur.
As a colleague of his, I wish him the best in his work, and in all that he has planned to do in the future.
Thank you very much for reading, Dattebayo!

Recently Kazuki Takahashi (the creator of Yu-Gi-Oh!) passed away...
Yu-Gi-Oh! was one of my favorite things back in my child and pre-teen days, it surely influenced my taste on monster like creatures and sinister things, it was the most sinister thing I enjoyed before metal music.
I'm an adult now, have to deal with adult life things, got few time to play video games... today I been playing yugioh forbidden memories in memory of Kazuki Takahashi
R.I.P. and thanks for one of the games i like the most in my life.
