I’m not in the mood to really discuss religion, but I thought it was funny that at one point, you said “Evangelion” when you probably meant “Evangelism” or “Evangelical.” I thought it was amusing, and I wonder if you did that anime reference on purpose.
it was not on purpose, we call it "evangelho" here in brazil it looks a lot like "evangelion" we even jokily call the anime "evangelion" as "evangelicos" (evangelicals) like the characters go to an evangelical church or something lol
@TheMiamiDeSantos I think jokingly conflating Evangelion with Evangelicals is more universal than you think, though the Brazilian puns are very new and amusing to me.
In the US, Evangelicals are (mostly) much, much older than other Christian groups and are a powerful voting bloc for Republicans (whose political tactics usually involve blaming everything younger generations enjoy for “corrupting the youth” and being the cause of unrelated issues like inflation—scapegoating, basically) so it’s pretty easy to confuse them by referencing the anime because they are likely at the age where they don’t recognize or get the appeal of anime at all, not even “Boomer” anime like Astro Boy or Speed Racer.
i used to love speed racer when i was a kid, boomerang used to stream old cartoons, cable tv was expensive as shit back then here in brazil so my parents did cancel cable tv here at home to save money
@TheMiamiDeSantos Boomerang was awesome. Used to watch a ton of Tom and Jerry, Flintstones and Looney Tunes, and of course my parents would join in since they actually grew up with those shows. I don’t remember seeing much Speed Racer in the US version of Boomerang, but I definitely discovered Astro Boy as well as my retro anime favorite, Voltron.
lucky, my parents are a red neck couple, they never liked anything i like. Still have my father he doesn't like anything i like, cartoons, animes, rock/metal, conspiracy theories, bible, nothing lol, not even my brother like none of that stuff, he likes animes like dragon ball, naruto, but doesnt like eofs. That's one of the reasons i'm going to the church, i have that friend of mine who likes bible stuff and that's the reason i call the people at newgrounds, facebook, etc families, not even my bloodfamily support my stuff like you guys do nor have good talks with me about stuff like cartoons, metal, bible, politics, etc
